Drag and drop PDF files here
Add two or more PDFs. Use the arrows to set the order. How to use
- Drag your PDF files onto the box, or press Choose files and select them. You can add more files at any time.
- Check the list. Each file shows its size and page count, and any file that cannot be opened is flagged with the reason.
- Use the up and down arrows to put the files in the order you want, and remove any you do not need.
- Press Merge PDFs. The combined file downloads as soon as it is ready.
Combine PDFs privately
Most online PDF mergers upload your files to a remote server, process them there and send the result back. That is fine for a restaurant menu, but not for a signed contract, a medical form, a bank statement or anything else you would not hand to a stranger. This tool works differently: the PDFs are opened and combined by your browser using JavaScript that runs on your own computer or phone. Your files never leave the device.
How it works
When you add files, the tool reads each one to count its pages and to check that it can be opened. Problems are reported straight away, with a message that tells you what is wrong: whether the file is password-protected, damaged or not a PDF at all. When you press Merge PDFs, the pages of every file are copied in order into a new document, which is then downloaded. The work happens in a background thread, so the page stays responsive even with large files, and a progress bar shows how far along it is.
Tips for a clean result
- Put the files in order before merging. It is much quicker than rearranging pages afterwards.
- If you only need some pages of a file, split it first, then merge the parts you need.
- Scanned documents are often large. If the merged file is too big to email, consider scanning at a lower resolution.
- To reorder, rotate or delete individual pages after merging, open the result in the page organizer.
Troubleshooting
If a file is reported as damaged, open it in your usual PDF viewer and use Save As or Print to PDF to create a clean copy, then add that copy instead. If the browser runs out of memory with very large files, merge them in smaller groups and then merge the results. For password-protected files, remove the password with the software that created them; this tool cannot bypass PDF security.
Frequently asked questions
- Are my files uploaded?
- No. The files are read and combined by your browser on your own device. You can disconnect from the internet after the page loads and the tool still works, which is a simple way to confirm that nothing is sent anywhere.
- Is there a file size or page limit?
- There is no fixed limit, but everything happens in your device's memory. We recommend keeping the total under about 200 MB on a computer and 50 MB on a phone. Larger jobs may be slow or fail, and the tool will warn you before you start.
- Why does it say my PDF is password-protected?
- Encrypted PDFs cannot be combined until the password is removed. Open the file in the program that created it and save a copy without a password, or print it to a new PDF.
- Will the quality of my documents change?
- No. Pages are copied as they are, including text, images, fonts and page sizes. Nothing is re-compressed or rasterized.
- Are bookmarks and form fields kept?
- Page content is kept, but document-level features such as bookmarks, the outline and interactive form fields are usually not carried over when documents are combined.
- Can I merge files of different page sizes?
- Yes. Each page keeps its own size and orientation, so an A4 report and a letter-size form can sit in the same document.
