How to use

  1. Open the PDF you want to watermark.
  2. Choose a text watermark and type the words, or choose an image watermark and select a PNG or JPG file such as a logo.
  3. Adjust the size, opacity, angle and color. Turn on repeating to cover the whole page with a pattern.
  4. Choose all pages or only some, then press Add watermark to download the result.

When to use a watermark

Watermarks tell readers how a document should be treated. “DRAFT” prevents an unfinished version from being mistaken for the final one, “CONFIDENTIAL” reminds recipients not to forward it, “SAMPLE” or “COPY” marks documents that are not originals, and a company logo shows where a document came from. Adding the mark to every page makes it hard to crop out a single page without the label.

Text or image

A text watermark is written as real text in the font size, color and opacity you choose. It stays sharp at any zoom level and adds very little to the file size. An image watermark places a PNG or JPG, such as a logo or a signature stamp, scaled to a percentage of the page width. PNG images with transparent backgrounds work best.

Layout options

  • Angle. 45 degrees is the classic diagonal stamp; 0 degrees runs horizontally across the center.
  • Opacity. Lower values let the page content show through.
  • Repeat across the page. Tiles the watermark in a staggered grid, which makes it much harder to remove by cropping or covering.
  • Pages. Apply to every page or only selected ranges.

How it works

The PDF is opened in your browser and the watermark is drawn onto each chosen page in a background thread. For text containing characters outside basic Latin, such as Korean, the tool downloads a Unicode font once from this site and embeds only the characters you used. Pages outside the selected range are copied without any change.

Privacy

Everything happens on your device. Neither the PDF nor your logo is uploaded, which matters when you watermark contracts, internal reports or unpublished work.

Frequently asked questions

Can people remove the watermark?
A watermark is added as part of the page content, so it cannot simply be switched off in a PDF reader. Someone with PDF editing software can still remove it, so a watermark signals status and ownership rather than providing strong security.
Can I use non-English text?
Yes. Text with accented letters, Korean, Chinese or Japanese characters is supported; the tool embeds just the characters you use from a Unicode font, so the file stays small.
What opacity should I use?
Around 20% to 30% keeps the text of the document readable while the watermark is still clearly visible. Use higher values for a stamp that must stand out.
Will the watermark appear the right way on rotated pages?
Yes. Each page's rotation is taken into account, so the watermark is centered and angled correctly as the page is displayed.
Are my files uploaded?
No. The watermark is added in your browser, and the PDF and any image you use stay on your device.
Can I watermark only some pages?
Yes. Choose "Only these pages" and enter ranges such as 1-3, 7. The other pages remain unchanged.
