Tools for everyday writing
Most writing has rules attached. An application essay has a word limit, a slide deck has a time slot, a product listing has a character cap, and a spreadsheet import expects one clean value per line. The text tools on this page handle those small but fiddly jobs so you can spend your time on the writing itself.
Every tool works the same way. You paste or type your text, and the result updates as you go. There is no upload button because nothing is uploaded: the processing happens in your browser, on your own device. That matters when the text is a cover letter, a contract draft or an internal report that you would rather not hand to an unknown server.
Which tool should I use?
- Checking length. The word counter shows words, characters with and without spaces, lines, paragraphs and bytes at once, so it covers essay portals, SEO snippets and database limits in one place.
- Timing a talk. The speech time calculator estimates how long a script takes to read aloud and lets you adjust for your own speaking pace and the number of slides.
- Fixing formatting. The case converter switches between upper case, lower case, title case and the naming styles programmers use. The line tools remove duplicate lines and sort lists, and the whitespace cleaner removes double spaces, tabs and invisible characters that sneak in when you copy from web pages or PDFs.
- Finding changes. Text compare highlights what was added and removed between two versions of a document, line by line or word by word.
Tips for accurate results
Text copied from word processors often carries hidden characters such as non-breaking spaces and zero-width joiners. They are invisible but they change counts and break comparisons. If a number looks wrong, run the text through the whitespace cleaner first. When a limit is strict, leave a small margin, because the website you submit to may count line breaks or special characters differently. Several text tools save your draft in this browser so you can pick up where you left off; clear the input when you are working on a shared computer.
